Hyderabad: SCR keeps MMTS rakes ready, awaits Centre’s nod

HYDERABAD (Metro Rail News): It’s been six months since MMTS, which is the suburban rail system in the city, stopped its services due to the Covid-19 induced lockdown. Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) and TSRTC resumed operations recently but MMTS remains the only public transportation that is still unavailable for commuters in the city. SCR conducted a trial run on the Secunderabad-Malkajgiri and Medchal-Moula-Ali routes as part of the phase-II project recently. SCR, which is waiting for an official order from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Railways, is making sure they are ready to resume operations as soon they get a go-ahead by ensuring all the MMTS rakes are fit and well-maintained. “By regularly checking the rakes and conducting other maintenance activities, we are taking all necessary steps to start operations at any moment. Passengers to pay an additional amount of Rs 10 to Rs 35 for using redeveloped stations

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Railway passengers may have to pay an additional amount of Rs 10-Rs 35 for their ticket fares as user charges for availing redeveloped stations with state of the art amenities and to help the national transporter in raising funds for redeveloping more stations, sources indicated. This is part of a proposal being finalised by the Railways which will soon be sent for Cabinet nod, the sources said. The user fee will vary according to the class — it would range between Rs 10 and Rs 35 with the higher price for AC first-class passengers according to sources. The Railways had earlier clarified that user fee would be levied only across stations which will be redeveloped and those that have high footfalls. Of the 7,000 total railway stations in the country, around 700-1,000 fall in this category according to the officials. Kolkata Metro services disrupted due to technical snag

KOLKATA (Metro Rail News): Kolkata Metro Railway services were disrupted for over an hour on Tuesday after a Dum Dum-bound A/C train experienced technical snag at Netaji station. According to sources, the incident took place at 2 pm when the AC rake going in the UP direction was stopped at Netaji UP platform after a cable hanging from the coach touched the third rail resulting in the emission of a burning smell. "Metro engineers and staff went to the spot and passengers were immediately evacuated," said an official. Truncated services were run from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station to Noapara station (both in the UP and DN direction). On September 28, Kolkata Metro Railway started running three pairs of additional trains (110 to 116 trains) and extended operation hours (the last service extended from 8 pm to 8.30 pm). NMRC to build 5 Metro stations on Aqua Line extension

NOIDA (Metro Rail News): The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has issued a tender to develop five Metro stations on the extension line of the Aqua Line to Greater Noida West in the first phase. The proposed route will connect Noida’s Sector 51 station with Greater Noida’s Sector 2, and help make commuting easier of scores of residents living in high-rises and villages en route. On December 3, 2019, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet had approved the 14.95km Aqua-Line extension corridor comprising nine stations from Noida’s Sector 51 to Knowledge Park 5 in Greater Noida. Praveen Mishra, an executive director, NMRC, confirmed that the tender has been issued. NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): As Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has resumed its services, the biggest metro network of the country is working balance its losses incurred due to the lockdown. The DMRC has suffered a loss of Rs 1,609 crores and it is trying to boost the revenue through other sources than that of fare revenue. The Metro Corporation which earns around 40% of its total no-fare revenues through advertisement is planning to adopt a few new measures to boost its economy. The corporation has rolled out four tenders to give out advertising license over the course of two weeks after resuming operations. The latest tender is to allot exclusive advertising rights through digital media inside ITO metro station on line-6 of DMRC network for nine-year-duration. Pune Metro achieves Breakthrough in a historic way

PUNE (Metro Rail News): The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation is executing Pune Metro Rail Project, which has two corridors. One from Vanaz to Ramwadi which is an elevated line and the other from PCMC to Swargate which is elevated from PCMC to Agriculture college and thereafter underground up to Swargate. Paras Railtech emerges as the lowest bidder for Delhi Metro Airport Express Line’s Track Contract

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Paras Railtech Pvt. Ltd has emerged as the lowest bidder for the supply and installation of tracks inside the 1.878 km underground extension of the Delhi Metro’s 22.9 km Airport Express Line from the Dwarka Sector 21 Station to the upcoming Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (ECC) in Dwarka’s Sector 25. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had invited tenders (bids) for ballastless tracks from firms on March 5 and then opened technical bids on July 6 to reveal two bidders – Paras Railtech and Vijay Nirman Company. Study for exploring possibilities of hyperloop corridor in Bangalore

BANGALORE (Metro Rail News): According to different reports, The Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) and the US-based hyperloop technology leader Virgin Hyperloop are planning to conduct a feasibility study to build a hyperloop corridor for high-speed transport between the airport and the city centre. “An agreement has been signed by the airport operator (BIAL) and Virgin to study a viable hyperloop corridor between Kempegowda international airport and the tech city, covering 40 km distance in about 10 minutes,” a statement said. BHOPAL (Metro Rail News): Workers from Dilip Buildcon Ltd. on Friday launched their first 8.5-meter wide precast segment for building the elevated viaduct of  Bhopal Metro Phase 1 project’s 6.225 km Package-01 connecting Subhash Nagar with AIIMS. This is the first section of Bhopal Metro ’s 14.99 km Line-2 (Karond Circle – AIIMS) for which Dilip Buildcon commenced work in early 2019 through Rs. 247.06 crore contract awarded by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Co Limited (MPMRCL) in October 2018 with a completion period of 27 months. The segment was launched between Piers 144-145 near Kendriya Vidyalaya Station on Hoshangabad Road. Launching activities using a double-nosed crane will continue northward towards Subhash Nagar. J Kumar Infraprojects unveils Girders for Mumbai Metro line 2A

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): Working under a tight 3.5-hour window, workers from J Kumar Infraprojects recently launched three 36.87m steel girders for constructing the 18.6 km Mumbai Metro Line-2A (Yellow Line)’s viaduct over the Western Railways’ tracks at Dahisar. The feat was accomplished between piers P67 and P68 right between Kandarpada Station (formerly Rushi Sankul Station) and Upper Dahisar Station (formerly Anand Nagar) on the northern end of the line. Launching works over 4 sets of tracks started at 12:15 am and ended around 2:30 am, well inside the 3.5-hour mega railway block that was scheduled to end at 3:45 am. BENGALURU (Metro Rail News):   Seepage at Majestic underground Metro station is troubling Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited once again following the recent heavy rain. Kempegowda Majestic Interchange, which has been operational since 2016, sees the highest footfall. It is also touted to be one of the biggest Metro stations in the country with world-class facilities. Yet, this is not the first time the station faced leakage problems. Chennai Metro: Stations to be equipped with foot-operated elevators

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Chennai Metro has begun installing a mechanism to operate lifts in metro stations by foot to prevent commuters from touching elevator buttons and thereby reducing the risk of contracting COVID. "32 stations along the 45km phase-1 will have foot-operated elevators by the end of this week. The nine stations coming up in Phase-1 extension, which will be ready at the end of this year, will also have similar elevators", said one official. A metro rail official said they have installed the devices in three elevators at 20 of the 32 stations. This includes Alandur, Central and Airport which attract more footfall.“Within a week, we will complete installation in other stations,” he added. DMRC to begin demolition of Palarivattom flyover from Monday for Reconstruction

KOCHI (Metro Rail News): Reconstruction work of Palarivattom flyover will begin on Monday as Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) Ltd held a meeting to finalise the procedures for beginning the demolition work as part of the reconstruction. ULCCS chairman Rameshan Paleri said they had a discussion with the DMRC on finalising the date for commencement of the work and it will begin on Monday. The demolition will be held in different phases and steps will be taken to ensure a free flow of traffic through the stretch. Majority of the work will be carried out during night time and a proper action plan will be put in place when spans and pier caps are demolished. CISF catches a man with RS 35 lakh cash at Delhi's Metro Station

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) detected cash amounting to Rs. 35 lakh from a passenger at Delhi's Tagore Garden Metro Station and handed over the passenger and cash to the Income Tax officials. According to an official press release, on Thursday at about 17.30 hrs, a male passenger carrying a handbag came at the security point of Tagore Garden metro station to gain access into the metro system and placed his bag in the X-BIS machine for x-ray screening. During the screening, a Constable of CISF noticed an image of a currency note inside the bag. He immediately stopped the passenger and informed the matter to his shift-in-charge. On questioning, the passenger revealed that he was carrying around INR 35,00,000 hard cash, but he failed to give any satisfactory reply for carrying such a huge amount of cash. E-Auto facility available at Chennai Metro Stations soon

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Solar or electric-powered autorickshaws will soon start operating from metro stations in Chennai to provide commuters with an eco-friendly public transport for last-mile connectivity. The service will coexist with the present eco-friendly transport fleet of Chennai Metro Rail Corporation. According to sources, a mobile app-based e-auto service was being planned on the lines of those recently launched. The e-auto has many safety features for passengers and is mostly driven by women. China's fastest metro train makes debut

BEIJING: China's fastest subway train, travelling at 160 km per hour, made its debut in southern Guangzhou city, according to a report of its official media. The subway train will be put into service at Guangzhou Metro's No. 18 and No. 22 metro lines, which are still under construction, the report added. The subway train will be put into service at Guangzhou Metro's No. 18 and No. 22 metro lines, and after that, it will take around 25-30 minutes from Nansha Free Trade Zone to the South Guangzhou train station and East Guangzhou train station, respectively,according to the Chinese national media Global Times. Entire rolling stock of Delhi-Meerut RRTS to be made in India

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): In a major push to Make in India, the entire rolling stock to be used for the Delhi-Meerut high-speed rail corridor will be manufactured in the country, with around 80% local content, an official of the project implementing agency has said. Bombardier Transportation, which won the rolling stock contract for the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), will start delivering the coaches from April 2022 onwards, a year before a priority section of the project is targeted to be commissioned, Vinay Kumar Singh, managing director of National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), said. “The contract had a provision for 75% local manufacturing, but now it has been decided that the entire rolling stock will be manufactured at Bombardier’s manufacturing unit in Savli, near Vadodara, Gujarat,” he told ET in an exclusive interaction. “The local content is more than 80% in these train sets.” The global mobility solutions giant had in May won a Rs 2,50

J Kumar Infra bags two orders worth Rs 91 cores from MMRDA

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): J Kumar Infraprojects has received a letter of acceptance (LoA) for two work orders worth Rs 91 crore from Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) . The scope of work involves external facade works for four elevated stations--Aarey, Dindoshi, Kurar and Poisar of Line-7 (Andheri East to Dahisar East) of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) worth Rs 49.83 crore. The work will be executed within the deadline according to the different sources. The scope of work also involves external facade works of four elevated stations--Goregaon, Adarsh Nagar, Shastri Nagar and D N Nagar of Line 2A on Dahisar (east) to D N Corridor of Mumbai Metro Rail Project, Mumbai worth Rs 41.17 crore. The MMRDA has been working to complete its works within timeframe even in these timers of the ongoing pandemic.

L&T bags Track Works contract of Delhi–Meerut RRTS Corridor

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Larsen & Toubro has emerged as the lowest bidder for the 82.15 km Delhi – Meerut RRTS Line‘s Package 17 involving the supply and installation of tracks after officials from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) opened financial bids submitted by different firms. NCRTC had invited bids from firms in April 2020 with a deadline of 1260 days. The technical bids were opened in July with three major bidders – L&T, IRCON and KEC International. During technical bid evaluation, IRCON International’s bid was rejected and as a result of it, their financial (price) bid was not opened. The estimated cost is not yet made public. Canadian firm bids for a Chennai Metro rail contract

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): A Canadian company has bid for the general consultancy work for the Chennai Metro’s new 26.09-km line-4 which will connect Light House with Poonamallee Bypass through 30 stations. Kshitish Nadgauda, senior vice-president and managing director - Asia of Louis Berger, a part of Canadian firm Williams Sale Partnership Limited, told TNIE that the company has already bid for pre-qualification in July. The bids are likely to be announced by mid-October, he said. In July, bids were invited for construction of elevated metro stations at Power House, Vadapalani, Saligramam, Avichi School, Alwartiru Nagar, Valasaravakkam, Karambakkam, Alapakkam Junction and Porur Junction for phase-2 of the project. This section of the line-4 is being partly financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) through a $356.65-million (approximately Rs 2,700 crore) loan. NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Indian Railways has floated a revised tender for procuring 44 semi-high speed 44 Vande Bharat trains mandating 75% domestic component making it a domestic tender, the Ministry of Railways announced on Monday. The government had earlier scrapped three global tenders for the ambitious project. According to the new tender, only companies registered in India can apply. Railways had last month cancelled its global tender issued for manufacturing 44 sets of semi-high speed Vande Bharat trains after a Chinese joint venture company CRRC Pioneer Electric (India) Private Limited emerged as the only foreign bidder for the tender that was floated in July. The Indian Railways has floated the revised Tender of semi high speed 44 Vande Bharat trains sets. DMRC fines more than 2000 people for not wearing masks

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Two weeks after resuming services — after a pause of five-and-a-half months — the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has fined more than 2,000 people for not wearing masks in the station premises and inside trains. According to DMRC data, from September 11 — when the rail corporation started imposing fines for mask violations — till September 20, at least 2,214 commuters had been fined for not wearing masks. Apart from this, DMRC teams had counselled, but not fined, more than 5,000 people, in an attempt to ensure that the new travel guidelines are followed. Four days after its graded resumption of services, the DMRC had formed a special flying squad for each of its nine operational corridors to ensure that commuters wear masks inside the Metro network at all times and abide by social distancing norms. These teams move in and out of trains and stations in the lines assigned to them and if any passenger is found to be violating the rules, they counsel them

Namma Metro extends the validity of smart cards for 10 years

BANGALORE (Metro Rail News): As the COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the country, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited on Monday decided to extend the validity of smart cards from one year to 10 years in order to avoid reactivation related issues. According to a statement issued by the BMRCL, even after five and half months suspension of its operations due to the pandemic, the commuters are still facing a lot of issues. The validity will help them to commute through the Metro Network more efficiently. “Therefore the BMRCL has decided to extend the validity of the smart card from present one year to ten years till Sep 19, 2030 to avoid inconvenience. The main idea is to encourage contactless travelling in the times of pandemic,” the BMRCL chief public relation officer, B. L. Yeshavanth Chavan said.

CMRS Inspect Four Stations of Nagpur Metro Project, Applauds the metro officials

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Pramit Kumar Garg has taken over the charge of Director of Business Development at  Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) . He has been given the duty when the Metro Corporation is trying to increase its revenues. "Mr Garg is an officer of the 1992 batch of Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) and has been associated with DMRC since 2002 in various capacities including Executive Director / Consultancy Business", the DMRC said in a press release. He is a Civil Engineer from the University of Roorkee (now IIT) and a post graduate from IIT (Delhi) and has a vast experience of 27 years with distinction in various capacities in Indian Railways as well as in project execution and implementation in urban environment and consultancy business in DMRC. He received the ‘Project Leader of the Year’ award in 2019 from Project Management Association, India for the efficient completion of the NOIDA-Greater NOIDA Metro line .

BMRCL Invites PMC Bids for Bangalore Metro’s ORR – Airport Line

BANGLORE (Metro Rail News) : Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) on Monday invited tenders (bids) to appoint a Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the civil construction works of Bangalore Metro’s 55 km Line-5 (Blue Line) which is going to connect Silkboard – KR Puram – Bengaluru International Airport through 30 stations on the Outer Ring Road and NH-44. BMRCL has so far utilized their in-house project management team for the 73.92 km Phase 2 project’s construction and has not appointed General Consultants either. But with this massive new line about to be built as part of the 18.236 km Phase 2Aand 36.511 km Phase 2B projects, they’re now seeking external PMC support through funding backed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) which, after their Management Review Meeting on September 10, is expected to approve a $500 million loan soon.
