Chennai Metro | Commuter suffers injury at metro station

Chennai: Falling tiles and breaking of glass panels at Chennai Metro station is now a cause of concern for the authorities. Chennai Airport suffers from the same problem where instances of glass breaking or tiles falling have been registered. Last week a metro commuter was injured when a tile fell on her head while she was on her way to buy tickets. The commuter was rushed to the hospital by Metro officials for treatment. Thankfully, the commuter did not sustain serious injuries. Vijaya, a 28-year-old resident of Bharathi Nagar was on her way to board a train from Shenoy Nagar Metro Station. As she entered the concourse level – the location where tickets are bought, a tile from the roof fell on her head. She was injured as the tile came crashing down and was immediately rushed to the hospital. Staff stationed at the metro station rushed her to the hospital where she was treated and discharged. Delhi Metro | Test run started on Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar stretch

Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is working tirelessly to improve connectivity via metro network. It has now started conducting trial runs on the 9.7Km stretch of the Pink Line. This stretch has five stations and will connect Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar. DMRC has started trail runs on this stretch after connecting Delhi’s shopping hubs in the city. The Delhi Metro Pink Line will also include Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station. The trials have started between Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar Pocket – 1. This stretch is part of 59-km long Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor that is also branded as the Pink Line. Managing director of DMRC Mangu Singh flagged off the trail runs that began on Wednesday. As per the floor plan, this route is a continuation of the currently operational Majlis Park – Lajpat Nagar section. Delhi Metro | Mayur Vihar- I station to benefit Delhites in big way 

Delhi: Once the Delhi Metro Pink Line of Mayur Vihar Station will open, travelling between East to South Delhi will be easy. The interchange facility will help daily commuters in a big way. The Pink Line of Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar-I section will be covering five metro stations. These would be Mayur Vihar Pocket-I, Mayur Vihar-I, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Ashram and Vinoba Puri. Bangalore Metro | Security man demands riders to speak in Hindi

Bengaluru: A commuter travelling in Bangalore Metro had a rather bizarre experience. A security staff member stationed at Lalbaugh Metro Station demanded a senior IT manger to speak in Hindi with him. This was a rather ‘rude behaviour’ which caught the commuter off-guard. The incident took place when a senior manager from well-known IT firm was travelling in metro. He was not very happy when a security staff member put up unruly demand. The agitated commuters logged a complaint with customer care and ticketing staff as well. Going a step further he also conveyed the incident to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) top officials. As per the commuters, Prakash (name withheld on request) was rushing towards the metro station during rains. He was to take a train and escape from the rains. Chennai Metro | CMRL to upgrade its App with interesting features

Chennai:  The  Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) plans to upgrade its app and add interesting features. Commuters who feel suffocated inside a coach due to poor air conditioning will soon be able to inform the metro official via the app. The upgraded app will help commuters to register their likes and dislikes while commuting in Chennai Metro. CMRL is coming up with a feature in the app where riders will be star their experience. The app will help rate amenities offered by the metro and this will give real-time feedback to metro authorities. The existing app will soon be upgraded by CMRL with new features and interfaces. Chennai Metro | Commuters faces trouble for phone connectivity at underground station

Chennai: Metro commuters might not be able to use their phones at underground station. Blame it on the ongoing squabble between Chennai Metro Rail officials and Telecom companies. This tussle is over the contract and payment delays service connectivity. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) in May 2017 started operation of the section between Nehru Park and Thirumangalam.  Currently it runs metro train in around 15km underground section starting from Central Metro to Thirumangalam as well as from AG-DMS to Saidapet. It is only Jio users who get mobile connectivity from Nehru Park to Thirumangalam. Unfortunately, other Telecom users are unable to connect in the underground section. They travel without signal when the train passes by underground stations. Sources in CMRL inform that Telecom providers are BSNL are not keen to sign a contract. Delhi Metro | DMRC unreadable metro cards to be turned into smart cards

New Delhi: In a bid to improve customer service, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has simplified the process of reclaiming unreadable cards. These cards end up becoming unreadable due to technical issues when presented at the entry point at the automatic fare collection gates. These cards were earlier deposited at the metro station and later collected by users. The physical cards had to be reclaimed after five days. Now DMRC plans to turn these physical cards into brand new smart cards for commuters. Riders have to collect the smart cards from the customer care desk at Delhi Metro station. This service is offered free of cost to commuters as per metro officials. These new cards can be recharged as per the requirement of the customers. Alternatively, they can use the card or token made available on the station. The idea is to offer seamless travel to patrons of the metro. DMRC had to take this step to reduce customer grievance. Soon cab service on call for Chennai Metro commuters

Chennai: Commuters looking to reach out to their nearest metro station in Chennai will be able to board a cab on call. As per recent development, Chennai Metro is all set to launch affordable cab services for metro riders. This service will be exclusively for metro commuters who wish to reach nearest metro station. Rider will have to call and hop on to a cab and reach the destination station within minutes. As per the information provided by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) , the commuters have to call the customer care number 18604251515 to book the cab. To start with this cab on call facility will be made accessible only for riders residing within 3 km radius of five Chennai Metro Rail stations. These stations are – Alandur, AG-DMS, Anna Nagar East, Vadapalani, and Koyambedu. Bangalore Metro | BMRC finally to get Paytm option post uproar

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) finally offers respite to metro commuters. BMRCL has decided to permit commuters to recharge smart cards using Paytm application. This move comes after uproar from commuters who found it difficult to recharge their cards. This move has been welcomed by metro commuters who were facing problem for a long time. With Paytm interface, riders will be able to save time and reach destination earlier. Commuters will be able to use Paytm app to recharge smart cards and also at major BMTC bus stations as well. The problem came to limelight when Deccan Chronicle reported in its paper the plight of commuters. Many shared that they had to stand in serpentine queues to recharge their smart cards. Delhi Metro | Lajpat Nagar-Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus Pink Line to open

New Delhi : Delhi Metro’s intricate network – the Lajpat Nagar to Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus section – would soon be open to public. The Pink Line netwrok is scheduled to be operational from August 6. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Kejriwal will be joined by Minister of State (Independent Charge), Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri. The inauguration will take place from Metro Bhawan via remote control. Passengers can board the train from 1:00 am onwards in the afternoon. The total length of Delhi Metro that is operational will increase to 296 km once the stretch becomes operational. In the new Pink Line stretch there will be 23 trains, running every 5 minutes 12 seconds in peak hours. During non-peak hours the frequency will be 5 minutes 45 seconds. The new Pink Line stretch is part of Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor. Bangalore Metro | More than 500 de-boarded with metro break jammed

Bengaluru: Sunday ride for commuters turned ugly with Bangalore metro train’s brakes jammed at RV Station. The technical snag forced officials to stop the train from operating temporarily on one section of Metro’s Green Line. Over 500 metro commuters were asked to de-board the train till the issue was fixed. This caused a delay of 20 minutes and the spill over effect was seen on other two train schedule. The trains headed towards Kempe Gowda Metro station was delayed. A senior metro official informed that the incident took place at 11.36. The brakes jammed just when the train was about to depart from RV Road Station. It was heading towards Jayanagar Metro Station. A passenger on board narrating the experience shared that the train had to be steered in reverse direction by use of a rear engine to Yelachenahalli. KMRL to submit revised DPR for Kakkanad extension to Centre

Kochi: The detailed project report (DPR) for Kakkanad extension is ready and Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) to submit the same to Center. The metro officials are set to handover the report to Urban Development Ministry to get approval. The DPR to be submitted today is for the 11-km long Kakkanad extension. The agency is getting ready to start piling for the extension starting from December this year. State sanctioned is accorded and a Government order is also issued for the same. Managing director, KMRL, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish is expecting positive response from the central government. The metro body is geared up to begin piling work for the Kakkanad extension from end of the year. Basic preparatory work to be wrapped up before the approval, this comprises of widening the corridor to 22 meters. Delhi Metro | DMRC all sets to open South Campus-Lajpat Nagar stretch in 15 days

Delhi: The much awaited Pink Line metro stretch would soon be made operational by next month as per sources from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) . If all goes well, by the end of this year the entire 59km stretch will be open for public. The second phase, the Delhi Metro stretch that will open shortly will be connecting popular shopping centers like the South Extenstion, Sarojni Nagar, Lajpat Nagar and INA. In March the first stretch starting from Majlis Park to South Campus was opened for public this year. Now the second stretch from South Campus to Lajpat Nagar is expected to open by first week of August. The third stretch from Lajpat Nagar to Shiv Vihar is likely to be made operational in two instalments owing to land acquisition issues with Trilokpuri section, added the source. If the  Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd  authorities get all necessary clearance with regards to safety, then this stretch will be inaugurated in August. The date of opening the lines will be fixed on CM gives his availability on a particular date. Chennai Metro | Metro services disrupted owing to technical snag

Chennai: On Sunday when commuters would want a hassle-free travel, many who took Chennai metro had to face trouble due to technical snag. As per reports, metro services were disrupted for nearly 30 minutes at the Kilpauk station. The issue happened in the evening when a train malfunctioned. Commuters had to wait for almost 30 minutes before the services were resumed. On the other hand Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) spokesperson asserted that the services resumed within 10 minutes. While asking metro rail commuters who took the train to the Kilpauk route share that the services were disrupted for over 30 minutes. Till that only single line was operational, until the metro rail that developed technical issues was towed back to Koyambedu Metro station with the help of another train. Mumbai: Sometime back Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor traveled in Mumbai Metro . His presence at the metro station did surprise commuters. Now it is actor-author Anupam Kher who decided to take the metro to evade the traffic. Kher is currently busy shooting for his upcoming film "The Accidental Prime Minister" where he will be portraying former PM Manmohan Singh. Mumbai Metro | Core activities to be in-house assert authorities

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is exploring possibility of keeping maintenance and operating activities in-house.  The authorities feel that it would be easier to manage things if all of it is managed internally for Mumbai Metro . MMRDA that is constructing all metros in the city might not hire external contractors for operation and maintenance of metros. Usually all the public projects it handles like building roads, bridges and other works are handed over to local bodies post completion. But with metros MMRDA is looking to manage things in-house. As per senior officials from MMRDA, they will be starting recruitment process to hire people to operate and maintain metros. They shared that the country has sufficient talent to operate metro rail networks. The external contractor too will hire people from outside.
