New Delhi: The phase IV metro project of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will, in all likelihood, not be funded by Japan. “Delhi will soon have a metro network that is longer than Tokyo,” said a senior official of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency . “It doesn’t make sense for us to keep funding metro projects in India.” When Delhi Metro’s Phase-III is launched in stages over the next few months, the national capital region will have a metro network spanning over 330km. The combined length of Tokyo’s metro lines is 195km. “We also need a very good reason to continue to support,” the JICA official said, who chose not to be named. “When Delhi Metro began in the 1990s, the technology was nascent and support was required. But Japan is no longer able to aggressively involve itself in metro projects. Coimbatore Metro | German agency KfW to fund 12.5m euros for Metro Rail feasibility study

Chennai: Coimbatore is getting ready to realise its Metro dream as Chennai Metro Rail is likely to take up the task to conduct a feasibility study and prepare a detailed project report on the mass transit system in the Manchester of South India. It is learnt that the 10-month study which includes preparing a feasibility report and a detailed project report would cost around Rs13 crore. Sources told Express that German Funding Agency KfW has expressed interest in providing 12.5 million euros to conduct the study and the balance amount will be paid by the State government. The move comes after Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami made an announcement in the  Assembly to introduce the Metro Rail project in Coimbatore city . The need for a mass transit system in Coimbatore is stressed, taking into account the growing population of Coimbatore which is expected to grow up to 27.7 lakh by 2033. AGRA: While Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Union home minister Rajnath Singh, on Tuesday, jointly flagged off an 8.5 km stretch of the first Metro train in Lucknow , work on the much-awaited  Agra Metro  seems to be on a slow track. No groundwork has been done after a detailed project report (DRP) was submitted to the Agra Development Authority (ADA) last year by the engineering consultancy firm Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) . But it is a no secret that the employees started quitting when most turned a blind eye to the possible miseries the sexual minority would face. Chennai: For the thousands of techies in the city, commuting across busy stretches to reach the various IT parks could become easier. Chennai Metro Rail Limited will in Phase 2 link some of the major IT parks on Old Mahabalipuram Road and Manapakkam with the rest of the city through metro stations. Mumbai Metro | Mumbai’s Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 to be ready by 2021

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is likely complete the Metro-3 corridor ( Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ ) by December 2021 instead of early 2021. It has also reduced the length of the phase-1 corridor. MMRC officials have blamed the revision on protracted legal battles over the cutting of trees and a Bombay high court stay on construction at night . The 33.5-km underground Metro is to be commissioned in two phases. MMRC has reduced the length of the corridor under phase-1, which was originally planned between the Aarey Milk Colony car depot and Bandra-Kurla Complex. Now, the first phase will connect the car depot to the airport. “The first phase, which is from the car depot to the airport, will be commissioned by March 2021. Mumbai: A Cuffe Parade resident has moved the Bombay High Court against the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) in connection with the construction of the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 underground corridor. He has alleged that barricades installed by the MMRC for construction have occupied maximum space on the access road leading to his society and the nearby societies making it difficult for the fire brigade to enter during an emergency. Residents from Colaba Woods Sports Complex Marg in Cuffe Parade have said that the MMRC is putting lives of residents in danger due to the Metro work barricades. The writ petition by Robin Jaisinghani prayed that directions be given to the MMRC to restore the road width of the Colaba Woods to at least 12 metres —minimum road width prescribed in Regulation 22 of the Development Control Regulations. Jaipur: The Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) has finally appointed a firm to review the detailed project report (DPR) of  Jaipur Metro phase-II proposed between Ambabari and Sitapura. French firm EGIS Rail SA (the lead firm) in joint venture with EGIS India Consulting Engineers Pvt Ltd and Feedback India Pvt Ltd will review the DPR of 24-km-long corridor. Nagpur:  Mahametro  has started the internal trial run for Metro operations on the 5.8 km at grade stretch from Mihan depot to south of airport . A team from Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO), Lucknow, will come to the city to review the preparations around September 10. A larger team will then reach here to conduct the trial run itself. A source in Mahametro said that track laying on the at grade stretch had been completed. "Track testing will be started soon to meet RDSO"s norms. All the electrical masts for supplying power to the trains have been installed. NCRTC to begin Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Rapid Rail work from March 2018

Ghaziabad: The officials of NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC) on Friday held a meeting with the Ghaziabad Development Authority on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Rapid Rail Transit Corridor project and deliberated on its cost benefit analysis. The work on this 90-km corridor is expected to begin in March next year. According to sources, six places have been earmarked in Ghaziabad district to develop stations under the transit-oriented development (TOD) within a radius of 1.5 km around each railway stations. "The six places which have been earmarked are Sahibabad, Ghaziabad city, Guldhar, Duhai, Muradnagar and Modinagar. The remaining eight stations will come up in Delhi and Meerut," said GDA vice-chairperson Kanchan Verma. "The work on this section will begin in March 2018. The cost of the project has been pegged around Rs 32,000 crore, out of which UP goverment will have to shell out nearly Rs 4,500 crore in ten years. The completion year has been set for 2024," said

Kochi: After much delay, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started Metro"s construction work between Maharaja"s College and Ernakulam south . A consortium of Cherian Varkey Construction Company (CVCC) and Vijay Nirman Constructions (VNC) — which has been awarded the contract — has started the work near Jos Junction. Govt. of India signs MoU with Switzerland to get Tilting Trains

New Delhi: India will collaborate with Switzerland for developing trains which will tilt on approaching a bend, just like a motorbike on a winding road. A memorandum of understanding was signed on Thursday between the two countries in this regard. Such trains are now operational in 11 countries — Italy, Portugal, Slovenia, Finland, Russia, the Czech Republic, the UK, Switzerland, China, Germany and Romania. Explaining how the tilting trains work, officials said that as a train rounds a curve at speed it cause objects to slide about. “While it makes seated passengers feel squashed by the armrest, standing passengers tend to lose their balance. New Delhi: Indian Railways for the first time has decided to use Rs 75 crore photographic inspection systems on tracks to check derailments on its ambitious Rs 18,000 crore project for increasing train speeds on the two busiest Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah rail sections. The two projects have been approved in Railway Budget and likely to cut down travel time between the three metro cities by 2019. The plan is to install photographic inspection systems at 10 locations each costing Rs 7.5 crore on the entire section to get photographic data of wheel profiles. Several railways across the world use the photo diagnostic system and it will be used for the first on these two sections in Indian railways, said a senior official of railway ministry. “The Railway Board is in process of finalising the stations on Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah section where these units have to be put. AIIB keen to invest $1.5 billion in infrastructure and metro rail projects in India

New Delhi: The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is mulling pumping in $1.5 billion (Rs 9,599 crore) in six new projects in India that includes Rs 1,279 crore in India"s National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), a top AIIB official has said. India has been trying to attract investments for NIIF from several international institutional investors. The Indian government has committed Rs 20,000 crore to the NIIF. "The bank is considering contributing to NIIF in addition to other projects across India. For the proposed investment into the NIIF, the estimated fund is $200 million. The bank is currently reviewing six projects in India.
