Banglore Metro | BMRCL Writes to IL&FS Unit over ORR Metro Line Contract

Bengaluru: Before taking a final call on awarding the 19 Km Outer Ring Road (ORR), the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has written to IL&FS Engineering and Construction seeking its response to eight queries. With IL&FS in a deep mess, the BMRCL wants to insulate its projects from any problems in the future. The IL&FS is a subsidiary of debt-ridden group company IL&FS has participated in all the three packages of Bengaluru’s 19-km ORR metro project. New Delhi: Finally Commissioner for Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) has given his date to carry out the safety inspection of 17.86 km long stretch of Shiv Vihar - Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake on Pink Line (Line-7) on October 20. After successful inspection and obtaining safety clearance, this section will be opened for the public. This section having 15 elevated stations including three interchange facilities. The stations come in this section are Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake, East Vinod Nagar-Mayur Vihar-II, Mandawali-West Vinod Nagar, IP Extension, Anand Vihar ISBT, Karkardooma, Karkardooma Court, Krishna Nagar, East Azad Nagar, Welcome, Jaffrabad, Maujpur- Babarpur, Gokulpuri, Johri Enclave, and Shiv Vihar. Delhi Metro | DMRC construction work to hit brakes after 20 years

New Delhi: On January 1, 2019, may begin without one of Delhi’s most ubiquitous sights for the past two decades of construction work of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Now DMRC is yet to receive approval for Phase IV from the Delhi government, which has not cleared it since 2015. After receiving it the state government’s approval, DMRC will have to approach the Centre for its go-ahead. Given that it is already the middle of October, there’s little chance of that changing by the end of the year. By the end of December, they will finish Phase III and also start operations. In an e-mail response, DMRC confirmed this and added that with no approval in sight, it will “not be in a position to start the implementation of Phase IV, said Senior DMRC officials. Mumbai Metro | MMRDA confirmed the contract for 378 metro coaches to be finalised

Mumbai: The contract for 378 coaches (rolling stock) for three metro lines will be finalized by the end of this month, confirmed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) . The coaches are being procured by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) , the nodal agen-cy for metro 2A (Dahisar to D.N. Nagar); metro 2B (D.N. Nagar to Mandale); and metro 7 (Andheri east to Dahisar east). “The contractor for purchasing the rolling stock will be finalized by the end of this month. The financial bids will be opened and the cost will be analyzed before awarding the contract,” said Pravin Darade, additional metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA . Delhi Metro | DMRC plans to expand 6-coach trains to 8-coach ones

New Delhi: On October 16, 2018, Delhi Metro has planned to induct more carriages to expand six-coach trains on its busy corridors to eight-coach ones to facilitate commuters during rush hours, sources said. For providing immediate relief to commuters, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to procure 156 coaches, out of which, 120 broad gauge coaches are required for converting six-coach train sets into eight-coach trains on Line 1 (Red Line), Line 2 (Yellow Line), Line 3 (Blue Line) and Line 4 (Blue Line), they said. "Besides, 36 coaches (six train sets of six coaches each) for the Airport Express Line on account of the extension of Airport Express Line to Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre, Dwarka, have also been planned," a source said. The new coaches, however, will not be used on Pink Line and Magenta Line, as the services on both networks are operated on standard-gauge, the sources said. New Delhi: The Metro ushered in with the promise of changing the way Delhi travels, has reneged on that promise by constantly harping on decreasing profitability and repeatedly hiking the price of tickets and placing the metro beyond the reach of those who need cheap transport the most. The metro has ridden roughly shod all across the city, caring little for students in Jamia University and disturbing the sleep of millions as its trains zip through the middle of the university and amidst thickly populated residential areas and all this because it chose to stay over the ground to save construction time and money. These objections might be brushed aside as the cost that one has to pay for development, but how is it that those that remain untouched by this development pay the most for it while the sleep of those who benefit the most from this model of development is never disturbed. Lucknow metro | LMRC Reunites separated child with his parents

Lucknow: The staff of Lucknow Metro once again set an example of readiness and compassion by reuniting the 6yr old boy who got separated from his parents yesterday. The 6 yr old boy, Arif was handed over to his parents safely after he got separated from his parents at Mawaiya Metro station on 14 October 2018. The parents of the child thanked the Metro staff from the bottom of their heart. On Sunday, Mr. Mohammad Jameel Ahmed resident of Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh) along with his wife Mrs. Tanveer Dhaira and their beloved child were on their way to Mawaiya Metro station. At the station, they deboarded the train but their child was unfortunately left behind. As soon as they realized this, they informed the on-duty Station Controller who further informed about the incident to the supervisor of Transport Nagar Metro Station. After receiving the information the Transport Nagar Metro Staff immediately started an investigation and consequently Arif was recovered from platform number 2 at 6.35

Mumbai Metro | State gives conditional nod to Monorail phase 2

Mumbai:  The state government has given a conditional nod to phase 2 of the monorail (Wadala to Jacob Circle) after rejecting the proposal earlier in June. The urban development department had asked that certain safety measures be complied with. Phase 2 will be operational in 2019 but the authority is yet to procure the additional rakes necessary for running both phases. “We had submitted another report to the state government. They have granted a conditional nod for commissioning the second phase of the monorail. All permissions have been sorted from the state’s side,” said a senior official from the Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The Asian Age had reported in its June 13 edition about the proposal to start the corridor being returned to the MMRDA by the urban development department. Ahmedabad Metro | After Centre objects, Metro rail link to GIFT City shortened by 6 km

Ahmedabad: After the Centre objected to the proposal of extending the Ahmedabad Metro rail deep into the GIFT City campus, the route for phase-II has been shortened by over six kilometers. As per the revised detailed project report (DPR) that has been sent to the Union Ministry of Urban Development for approval, there will now be only two stations on the Metro line linking the main phase-II route with GIFT City, sources said. As per the initial plan for phase-II of the Metro project — which was approved by Gujarat government on October 2017 — the route had a total length of 34.59 km, wherein a separate line was to be built from Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) to GIFT City for providing necessary connectivity to the campus housing the country’s first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC). Metro | Indian Railways plans to manufacture metro rail coaches

New Delhi: Indian Railways plans to manufacture metro rail coaches at its Rae Bareilly facility as part of the Make In India programme. Railway Board member Rajesh Agarwal said that robots will be deployed to manufacture these coaches, which are expected to be on par with those currently in service manufactured by Bombardier. They are expected to be 40% cheaper than those bought from China and other countries. Manufactured coaches for Indian Railways will be equipped with CCTV cameras, mobile charging points, wi-fi, and other facilities. “They are expected to be 40% cheaper than those bought from China and other countries.” These coaches will also include safety features such as door control, signaling,  train management systems, and advanced surveillance gadgets. Lucknow:  English Proficiency with flying colors today.  Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) had collaborated with Amity University, Lucknow for a dedicated training in these skills to the candidates recently. This is in addition to the intensive technical training that has been imparted to the trainees at the Centre of Excellence for Training (COET), Transport Nagar Metro Depot. The two-week English Proficiency and Soft Skills Training Programme which concluded today for a batch of 33 participants included Junior Engineers of Electrical discipline, PR Assistants, HR Assistants, and Account Assistant, had commenced on 24th September 2018. Lucknow: On 29, September, Lucknow Metro repeated its historic feet by successfully completing the erection of a 60 Meter Special Steel Span near Nishatganj over the mainline Railway operational track at the location. This achievement has been accomplished by the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) Engineer under the leadership of Shri. Kumar Keshav, Managing Director in just 5 days without hampering the movement of the mainline railway and the vehicular traffic plying along the adjacent Indra Bridge. The launching activity of this 470-ton steel span over Metro viaduct was a daunting task in itself as this activity was performed during night hours at a height of approximately 16 meters above the ground level. Delhi Metro | CISF commandos train to tackle hostage situation inside Metro tunnel

New Delhi: After recent inputs from Central intelligence agencies over the need for securing metro trains inside underground tunnels, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has started a response training program for its quick reaction teams (QRTs). Senior officers said that the training will equip commandos to handle the situation in case a metro coach is highjacked, rescue passengers and neutralize terrorists inside the tunnel. An officer associated with the program said the training which started recently will be completed within three months. The drill is conducted between midnight and 4 am when metro operations for the public are closed, he said. Officials said the paramilitary force is conducting the training at different stations every day so that commandos become familiar with most of the existing tunnels. “There is no cause for alarm for the public. Cabinet approves Metro projects in Bhopal and Indore

New Delhi: Ahead of crucial state assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Cabinet on Wednesday approved Metro Rail projects in both cities. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad made the announcement after the Cabinet meeting and said that the project in Bhopal would be a 50-50 arrangement between the central and the state governments and the line would run for 27.87 kilometers. The total expenditure of the project is estimated at Ras 6,941.40 crore and would be completed in four years. Prasad further said that the project in Indore would be longer - at 31.55 kilometers and would cover most of the city. The total cost of the expenditure is estimated at Rs 7,500.80 crore and would also take four years to complete. Bengaluru: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Thursday flagged off the second six coach metro train at Kempegowda metro station in Bengaluru. Mumbai: On Thursday the Bombay High Court told the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to grant the hearing to residents objecting to the tree cutting proposal for the Metro car shed project. The court was hearing a petition filed by Preeti Menon and Ruben Mascarenhas, Aam Aadmi Party leaders and social activists through lawyer Rakesh Singh, seeking a direction to stop the “indiscriminate premature felling of trees inside Aarey colony” till permissions are obtained to construct the metro car shed/metro station. The petition says that on September 29, while driving past Aarey Colony, Menon happened to see trees being felled along Aarey Marol Road. “On making inquiries, she learned that the approach ramp and road to the car shed were being constructed… It was seen that more than 100 huge trees were cut and many more were being surveyed. Mumbai: After the National Monuments Authority (NMA) rejected its proposal to build a Metro rail route within the ‘prohibitory area’ of the Aga Khan Palace, a heritage structure, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRC) or Maha-Metro has proposed certain changes in the route alignment that will lead to an increase of Rs 185 crore in the project cost. In a communication to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the Maha-Metro suggested three options but recommended the second option, which proposes an alternate route. It involves diverting the route from Gunjan Chowk and increasing the length of the viaduct to an additional 0.92 km. As per the first option, the Metro route would be diverted from Kalyaninagar Metro station and it would entail a slight increase of .06 km in the length of the viaduct. Chennai: Falling tiles and breaking of glass panels at Chennai Metro station is now a cause of concern for the authorities. Chennai Airport suffers from the same problem where instances of glass breaking or tiles falling have been registered. Last week a metro commuter was injured when a tile fell on her head while she was on her way to buy tickets. The commuter was rushed to the hospital by Metro officials for treatment.
