Chandigarh to revive monorail project after 21 years

Chandigarh : It was in 1997 that the proposal to launch monorail in Union Territory was mooted. Now after 21 years, the administration is planning to revive the project after shelving the idea of metro train. Local MP Kirron Kher and UT adviser Parimal Rai had a meeting with Swiss Transport Company Intamin at the UT Secretariat in Sector 9 last week. The Swiss company shared presentation on monorail. The Union government in 2006 had rejected the Chandigarh monorail project, instead had asked to explore metro rail project. Post meeting Kirron Kher while speaking to Times of India said, “The administration is exploring different ways of improving public transport and connectivity with the nearby cities, and monorail is one of those models. Monorail | Recent incident awake operator on emergency alert

Mumbai: On September 2, the issue arises with the Monorail services came to a standstill due to cable infringement leaving 60 passengers stranded on the train. Then the Monorail operator has written to Mumbai Police and Mumbai Fire Brigade seeking their assistance and cooperation, in case of an emergency or accident. Later the operator has also written to hospitals along the Chembur-Wadala route for cooperation, in case of a medical emergency. Due to this incident the passengers stranded for almost one hour and services being a delay for three hours. This is not first in fact ever since Chembur-Wadala Monorail services started in February 2014, there has been a number of times a constant breakdown arises with passengers getting stranded inside due to various technical glitches. Monorail | Staff and Employees halt the work until their salary releases

Mumbai:   The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) from 1 September plans to restart the Chembur-Wadala services of the monorail.  The work of Monorail is stuck in limbo when the employees of the operator have refused to resume duties. They mention that they will start work only after the last two months payment release. None of the employees would work until the unpaid salaries are cleared. The MMRDA would shell out advance payment to LTSE consortium to help them clear payments. In November, the Maharashtra government shut down the controversial Mumbai monorail service after the safety of commuters was endangered by a series of mishaps and technical glitches, including a fire in one of the trains. Monorail | MMRDA spends more then it generate RTI report reveal

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has to pay a higher trip rate for operating the country’s monorail corridor. When next month its services resume , MMRDA will also have to bear with another huge expenditure so that they can provide security for the 8.9-km corridor. The Right to Information Act, 2005, informs that MMRDA had to shell out more money on the corridor’s security than the revenue it rakes in from the service. In the first six months of the 2017-18 fiscal, when the monorail was operational, the revenue generated was a mere 62% of the expenditure borne by MMRDA for security. A senior official said that between 2014 and 2016, the MSSC had deployed 331 security personnel at stations and the depot. The deployment was reduced to 243 personnel from July 2016. Monorail | MMRDA to re-start Monorail services from Chembur to Wadala

Mumbai: There is good news for people dwelling near Chembur and Wadala area. Monorail services are to re-start from Chembur to Wadala, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced its re-starting date which is on September 01, 2018. But till now there are only three trains out of the total nine are available. The MMRDA is expecting to get at least two more trains fit to play in the next 15 days. The official sources said that to maintain a frequency of 15 minutes, three trains are not enough. This also signifies that the frequency of Monorail services hardly to be better than before. According to the plan, there is a need to have four coaches in each monorail train, and it was estimated to have ferry around 15,000 passengers daily between Chembur and Wadala. Mumbai: Monorail which comes under Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) . Now contractors of this are demanding higher trip rate for resuming the services on Phase I. Now the consortium of Larsen & Toubro-Scomi Engineering (LTSE) are demanding more than five times the earlier trip rate to run the country’s only monorail corridor between Chembur and Wadala. Already the LTSE has demanded Rs 18,000 per trip in order to operate Phase I of the monorail corridor. The Metropolitan Commissioner R A Rajeev said that we have not yet decided and are holding meetings with them. Chandigarh now plans a Monorail, after dumping Metro rail project

Chandigarh:  After the rejection of metro rail project in last year in the month of July now, the Chandigarh administration is now planning to have a monorail . As an alternative model of mass transport in the city. Monorail is a rapid transit system which consists of a single track, typically elevated, with trains suspended from it. Intamin Transportation Limited, a Switzerland-based company has given a presentation as well as the proposal regarding constructing the monorail network to senior Union Territory officers last week. In the first phase, 20km network is proposed. It will connect the Tricity — Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali. During the presentation, the monorail company stated that the monorail has the capacity to ferry 10,000 to 12,000 passengers per hour per direction. Mumbai Monorail | Scomi employees appeal Chief Minister to restart monorail operation

Mumbai: Employees of the Malaysian based Scomi Engineering involved in operations of India"s first Monorail  in Mumbai. They have now appealed to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to find some solution for their salary issue. They urged the Chief Minister to restart operation of Monorail so that their issues can be resolved. If once the operation start employees will get new ray of hope that the will get their unpaid salaries since April 2018. In June, company told some employees to work from home and some were sent on leave due to issues raised between MMRDA and the Scomi Engineering. Mumbai Monorail | Staircase brought monorail again in controversy

Mumbai: Once again the Mumbai Monorail is in the argument. Bhavya Heights Society, a housing society in Wadala has complained that the point of entry and exit staircase at the Wadala monorail station is blocking the access of fire brigade in the society. This housing society has now moved to high court which has castigated Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for not working in an organized way which has resulted in such situations. Now the court has said and directed the authorities further to assure that the other monorail project from Jacob Circle to Chembur will not have such problems.
