Light Metro dreams stuck in red tape

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Light Metro Rail, a major infrastructure project for the development of the capital, is stuck in the red tape with the Finance Department yet to give a final approval for the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR). The DPR was submitted by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as per the new metro policy last December. Though the DMRC has withdrawn from the project, the state government proceeded with it finding new consultants. But, the tender process to identify a new consultant has not yet begun leaving the project in a complete deadlock. The Finance Department is sitting over the file for the past nine months sources said. As per the new policy, it’s the respective state governments that should submit the request for approval. Expert committee gives consent to findings of SIA study at Sreekaryam

Thiruvananthapuram:  The proposed light metro project will now have a flyover at Sreekaryam. This is based on the findings of Social Impact Assessment study carried out to ascertain the need for the flyover. The state government has received necessary sanction for acquiring 1.343 hectares of land for the said project. The flyover is one of the aspects of proposed Light Metro project. In order to evaluate the need for the project a seven-member expert team was formed. The panel was headed by former Professor of Sociology, University of Kerala, P.K. Bhaskaran Nair with the primary task of preparing Social Impact Assessment (SIA). SIA was done by Centre for Advanced Research in Health and Human Behaviour (CARB). After public hearing on March 10 the report was handed over to district administration.
