Kochi Metro | Metro services gets close due to heavy rain flood

Kochi: Today South Railway and Kochi Metro are suspended its operations due to heavy rain flood. Heavy causing the public transport system to collapse in several parts of Central Kerala. Due to continuous rains, the water level has increased in the Periyar River and all the gates of major dams, including Mullaperiyar, Cherutoni, Idukki reservoirs and Idamalar, have been opened. Due to this, the lives of people living in low-lying areas have been majorly affected. Water  level increased to  Bridge no 176 The flood situation has affected the transport system in Kochi city. KMRL to submit revised DPR for Kakkanad extension to Centre

Kochi: The detailed project report (DPR) for Kakkanad extension is ready and Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) to submit the same to Center. The metro officials are set to handover the report to Urban Development Ministry to get approval. The DPR to be submitted today is for the 11-km long Kakkanad extension. The agency is getting ready to start piling for the extension starting from December this year. State sanctioned is accorded and a Government order is also issued for the same. Managing director, KMRL, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish is expecting positive response from the central government. The metro body is geared up to begin piling work for the Kakkanad extension from end of the year. Basic preparatory work to be wrapped up before the approval, this comprises of widening the corridor to 22 meters. Kochi Metro | KMRL makes Skywalk from metro to LULU Mall to make it easy for public

Kochi: A well know mall  Lulu in Edapally, Kochi is the first business establishment to connect with Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. (KMRL). A skywalk connecting mall with metro station opened for public on 14th June 2018, Thursday by managing director APM Mohammed Hanish. Kochi marked a new achievement before it’s first anniversary with a great tie-up. The connectivity is expected to bring down vehicular traffic at busy Edapally Junction and make it easier for the public to commute from metro station to mall and back. Kochi Metro| Solar power plan inaugurated at Kochi Metro Rail project

Kochi: At Kochi Metro Rail’s operational control centre located at Muttom, a 2,670 photovoltaic (PV) solar plant was inaugurated by managing direction of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish.  This project aims to boost the share of solar energy to 19.4% of metro’s total energy utilization at Kochi Metro Rail. During the first phase of Kochi Metro Rail solar power was to be generated from the rooftop plants. These would be installed at 22 metro stations as well the Muttom depot. The entire project using the rooftop would have generated around 4MWp. This is an ambitious plan in order to work towards offering sustainable solutions. Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model has been adopted by KMRL to implement projects using green energy. Kochi Metro | KMRL to start metro services till SN Junction by end of 2020

Kochi: Kochi Metro is all set to spruce up the public transportation system by extending metro rail line from Pettah to SN Junction. The project is likely to be completed by 2020 end as per Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) officials. Land acquisition for the project has begun with the officials completing discussion with oil companies as well as finished alignment work. Managing director APM Mohammed Hanish of KMRL informed that they will be work along the central line of the route. Discussion with oil companies was held as oil pipelines have been laid on the same route where metro will run. After studying the area, KMRL officials have earmarked adequate horizontal clearance. The report was shared with oil companies who have accepted the suggestions. Kochi Metro | KMRL sign agreement with auto drivers

Kochi: Kochi Metro Rail Limited has signed a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) with the district-level coordination committee of autorickshaw driver unions to integrate the tuk-tuk network with the Metro system. The historic agreement will bring together 15,000 automatic rickshaws in the Greater Kochi area under a single umbrella that will act as a single unit to transport public transport passengers to their final destination and vice versa. Cars under a registered partnership will begin to operate for a variety of services such as feeder, hire, call and rental. The objective is to support KMRL in the implementation of ‘Seamless Transportation for Kochi’ by providing connection services around its stations and other modes of public transport. Kochi: The Kochi Water Metro project will gain momentum as Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) opens technical offers to carry out topographic surveys in areas identified for 19 terminals on Thursday. The survey will provide detailed information on the terrain and surface characteristics of the identified area for the development of piers and other related infrastructures. Kochi Metro | KMRL looks to boost revenue from property and advertising business

Kochi: In what can be seen as a thumbs up from the city’s residents, daily ridership on the Kochi Metro has doubled to 30,000 since the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) threw open in early October a 5-km stretch that extends the network to the heart of the city. Of the 25.6-km Phase 1 project, the first 13-km stretch was made operational in June this year . To be sure, the Kochi Metro, which boasts a number of firsts, and was built at a cost of just over Rs 5,000 crore, is still finding its feet. It does not expect to achieve its target of 300,000 daily commuters for at least five-six years, until its Phase II (11.2-km) becomes operational and a host of initiatives are implemented. Until such time, however, the KMRL is banking on innovative channels to boost revenue. First, on a recommendation from Ernst & Young, KMRL decided against spending on the automatic fare collection system, instead inviting bids from banks in exchange for the right to issue a co-branded card to commuters....

New Delhi: The Kochi Metro Rail Project has been selected for the “Best Urban Mobility Awards” by a jury headed by former union urban development Secretary M. Ramachandran. The award will be given by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in a event being organised by Institute of Urban Transport (India) on November 4-6, 2017 in Hyderabad, India. The jury held view that the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) is implementing an excellent urban public transport model consisting rail, road and water transport projects in Kerala. The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri will present the award to all selected metro projects in various category during the 10th Urban Mobility India International conference being hosted by the Union Urban Development Ministry every year. Kochi Metro | KMRL to review its metro fare policy soon

Kochi: Amid a demand for a cut in fares, the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) Managing Director Elias George made it clear on Wednesday that the fare policy would be reviewed only after the commencement of metro commercial operations till Maharajas. “The correct pattern of regular metro users can be arrived at only when the Metro reaches Maharajas College. We will analyse the situation then and accordingly effect certain changes in the fare structure,” the official said while visiting the Changambuzha Metro station where the mural art work decorations were completed. After the initial rush, thanks to joyriders, the metro trains operating in the Aluva-Palarivattom section is witnessing less commuter patronage during the weekdays though the situation is much better on holidays and weekends. Kochi Metro | KMRL changes metro train schedule from 26 August till 3 September

Kochi: The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) on Friday said passenger services will be rescheduled from August 26 (tomorrow) and will start only from 8 am. The change is part of the KMRL’s plan to extend the operations of Kochi Metro till Maharaja’s College by the beginning of October before the FIFA Under-17 World Cup event starts. In a statement, the KMRL said “in order to commission this reach, technical tests have to be done on the signalling system for the complete section from Aluva to Maharaja’s College. This delayed schedule will continue till September 2 for ensuring the smooth commissioning of the signalling system.” As September 3 is Sunday, the services will be starting at 8 am. Kochi Metro | KMRL to enter into realty sector to build European styled apartments

Kochi: If all goes as planned the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) will soon enter the city"s realty sector. The Metro agency"s entry into real estate targeting middle class home buyers is expected to redefine the sector. In a recent talk delivered by KMRL managing director Elias George, he firmly stated the Metro agency"s readiness to plunge into the sector. "We are going to do real estate business ," he said, adding, "We are confident that we can give the best possible fittings and flats." KMRL expects to generate revenue of approximately Rs 1,000 crore through the sale of these apartments. Kerala government has provided 18 acres of land to KMRL at Kakkanad, where old NGO quarters are located, and the flats will come up here. The Metro agency intends to develop European-styled apartments which are of 1,000-1,200 square feet.
