Chennai Metro | CMRL to begin phase II, will not wait for Centre’s nod

Chennai: Sources with Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) suggests that the metro body will not wait for center’s approval for Phase II work. They are likely to kick-start the project as soon as the first tranche of a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is disbursed. CRML is confident about starting construction work for Phase II. The first tranche loan from JICA will meet the requirement. In case of shortage of fund, the state government will pitch in. As per the procedure, there are two levels of approvals required to begin one. The first level is needed before approaching JICA that permission has already been given by the center. Then there is the second level of approval needed to begin work. The CMRL will not have to wait for this approval once JICA releases the funds. The Metro officials are hopeful that JICA will send in final sanction within a month or two. Once CMRL receives funds from CMRL, they will start the construction work. CMRL will proceed ...

Government will encourage "Make in India" with Metro Rail Projects

New Delhi: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has decided to give the responsibility to NITI Aayog to review the progress of standardization and indigenization of metro rail system. Metro rail system is being set up all over the country. According to the Ministry, the purpose of this initiative is to speed up the government"s "Make in India" campaign for the implementation of metro rail projects in the states. An official said that the standard of the engine compartment, signal system, and telecommunication system has been standardized. An official said, "It has been decided that the members of the NITI Aayog will review the progress of standardization and indigenization of the metro rail system. Ministry will ensure timely progress. Significantly, Prime Minister Narendra  Modi had approved the setting up of a committee under the chairmanship of "Metro Man" e-Sreedharan to fix the standard of the metro rail system in the country. Nagpur Metro | NMRC along with others help to complete development work in the city

Nagpur:  The Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) along with completing metro rail project will also be assisting in completing development work in Nagpur. This comes after Union Minister Nitin Gadkari asking metro officials to assist in completing development works pending in the city. Gadkari was present at the review meeting organized to oversee the status of development work in the city. He was presiding the meeting and Brajesh Dixit, the Managing Director of Maha Metro was also present. Dixit has assured Gadkari that they will complete all the development projects within a set timeframe. This step was taken after a review was conducted of various development works going on in the city. During the review it emerged that owing to shortage of funds with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) , several projects are pending. Jindal Steel to supply long rails - wins Rs 25,000cr railway tender

New Delhi : Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) bags one of the most talked about and highly anticipated Indian Railways global crore tender. The estimated value of the tender is Rs 25,000 crore and JSPL will cater to 20% long rails requirement of railways. Steel Authority of India (SAIL), till now was catering to the demand of Indian Railways. They were providing ‘long rail’ to the railways. This time however, SAIL expressed their inability to meet the demand of rails. It is then Indian Railways invited tenders from global players. With JSPL winning the tender, they will now meet the 20 percent of the deficit demand. SAIL will be meeting 80 % of the total demand. Visakhapatnam Light Metro | Panel formed for long pending project

Visakhapatnam: Finally the long pending light metro project is gaining grounds. A panel has been formed for the Visakhapatnam Light Metro Rail Project’. In latest development, orders have been given by principal secretary of Municipal Administration & Urban Development, R Karikala Valavan to formulate a committee for the project. As per the directives from Valavan, a Visakha Metro Rail Project monitoring and advisory committee’ is being established. The panel will be entrusted with the task of checking the quality of work and monitoring the progress. The long pending project will be taken under the private-public partnership model. To accelerate the progress all necessary permissions will also be taken at the earliest. The officials now want to speed up the process and shift gears. Kolkata Metro | East-West metro rake completes trial run

Kolkata: A trial run on 3km stretch between Central Park and Sector V was conducted on Wednesday on East-West metro. In October the lines that connect Sector V with a salt lake stadium is expected to be open. This line will be opened 34 years after another metro’s in Kolkata . India’s first metro that was open for thrown public in October 1984. On Wednesday, the people were on their rooftops to catch the event on their phones. People were standing at the top of Bikash Bhavan, HSBC building. From inside the metro, one could see all the people. Even, on the terraces of the nursing home, white-coated doctor and nurses were also spotted. Kolkata Metro | Indian Rly gives ultimatum to West Bengal govt to remove lands

Kolkata: According to a communication issued by the Indian railways to West Bengal government needs to remove around 2,000 squatters of substantial land which was acquired for the Airport-Barasat metro of Kolkata Metro Rail Project to have any chance of completing it. The administration had so far managed to remove close to 1,000 squatters from various Metro construction sites. But both the railways and the state government acknowledge that getting double the number of people to shift from just one stretch is a gargantuan challenge, said by a senior railway official of the state government. Because of some technical hurdles on the construction of the 3.5 km stretch from the proposed airport metro hub till new Barrakpore the metro railway had already submitted an alternative plan to the railway board.
