DMRC Signs MOU With MDI Gurgaon For Mutual Sharing Of Expertise

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for exchanging intellectual resource and infrastructure of both the organizations and setting the ground for long term Academy-Industry Partnership sharing the strengths of each other. The MoU was signed at DMRC’s corporate office at Metro Bhawan by Mr. Sharat Sharma, Director (Operations)/DMRC and Dr. C. P. Shrimali , Director (Acting) , MDI, Gurgaon in the presence of Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director/DMRC and other senior officials. DMRC and MDI would collaborate to develop management level programs for senior and middle level executives of DMRC and the students of MDI in order to strengthen the scope of innovation and research. The modules for these programmes would be designed by the faculty members from MDI and officers from DMRC. Kochi Metro | French agency finalises funding for Metro phase-II

KOCHI: French financing agency Agence Française de DĂ©veloppement (AFD), on Friday officially announced funding for phase-II development of the Kochi Metro Rail, and other city development projects proposed by the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL). Meanwhile, a team from AFD expressed satisfaction over the progress of the Metro Rail project, for which the agency is  providing external funding. Lucknow: Dr. E. Sreedharan, Principal Advisor to Lucknow Metro, who was on a review visit to Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) today, presented a prototype of Metro travel Smart Card to Shri Akhilesh Yadav, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh. Named ‘Go Smart’ – this smart card will serve the purpose of token free travel in LMRC for Metro commuters. It will be a contactless card which will have to be shown at the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates by the passengers while entering or exiting from the Metro system. Lucknow Metro’s ‘Go Smart’ card will also serve as ‘Common Mobility Card’ in future as it can be integrated with 28 different agencies for passenger’s mobility need within the city. Metro users can also use this card while travelling in City Buses and UPSRTC once these systems are integrated. New Delhi:  The NOIDA Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with theDelhi Metro Rail Corporation ( DMRC ) as per which the DMRC will be assisting NMRC in their Operations & Maintenance (O&M) services/works of the 29.7 KM long NOIDA-Greater NOIDA Metro corridor. DMRC will be providing such services/assistance to NMRC till they develop the expertise to take over the operations and maintenance themselves. Chennai Metro | Extension of Metro Rail services may get underway by Aug end

Chennai:  Extension of Metro Rail services on the Airport-Alandur sector may get underway by August end, as the Commissioner (Railway Safety), Sudarshan Naik today said he was satisfied with the progress of work and that it would ‘hopefully’ begin by end of next month. “I have inspected the airport station and Alandur. Two more stations are there. By and large, I am satisfied with the total scheme of things,” Naik, who is on a two-day visit to the city said. He said a report would be submitted to the Union government after conducting inspections today and tomorrow. “It will be done sooner than you expect… Hopefully,” he said to a query on whether commercial operations would begin by next month end. The first phase of the Rs 14,600 crore project was inaugurated last year between Koyambedu and Alandur, a 10.15 km elevated stretch. Amaravati Metro|Identify land for metro rail works in Amaravati city

Hyderabad:  Managing Director of Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation Limited N. Ramakrishna Reddy on Wednesday met Collector Pravin Kumar and discussed with him identification of government land for Metro rail work in the city. Land is required for the Metro rail depots and office etc. Mr. Reddy is also in charge of Visakhapatnam Metro project. Mr. Pravin Kumar instructed the Collector office officials to ready details of government and inam land along with maps in three, four areas of the city. Municipal Commissioner N. Bengaluru metro: Metro trains on the Purple Line between Mysore Road and Baiyappanahalli in Bengaluru was delayed by 25 minutes on Thursday morning due to technical snag. In order to facilitate comfortable and hassle-free travel to the passengers of Air India travelling on the Airport Express Line of the Delhi Metro Network, Air India in association with Delhi Metro today inaugurated two specialized check-in counters at the New-Delhi station of the Airport Express Line.  The facility was jointly inaugurated by Sh. Ashwani Lohani, Chairman cum Managing Director, Air India and Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC at New Delhi station. The newly introduced counters shall allow the Air India passengers flying on international and domestic routes to book tickets get desired flight information and also check-in their extra luggage. These counters shall remain open from 5am in the morning to 11pm in the night.  The flight check-in facility shall close two hours before the departure of the scheduled flight. IL&FS Engineering and Construction Company has rallied 15% to Rs 58.60 on the BSE in early morning trade after the company late Friday announced that it has won the Rs 532.67-crore contract from Nagpur Rail Corporation. “IL&FS Engineering Services has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (A Joint Venture of Government of India & Government of Maharashtra) for Rs 532.67 crore Nagpur Metro Rail Project,” the company said in a statement. The project involves construction of seven elevated metro stations, and three at-grade stations (North South Corridor) viz Congress Nagar to Khapri. Chennai Metro | Beneath Anna Salai, Metro Rail work to come to life again

Chennai Metro(Summary): After a long hiatus, tunnelling and station work on the Chennai Metro Rail sites on Anna Salai will begin soon. Officials of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) said they plan to award the contract to L&T for constructing stations on the stretch from Government Estate to AG-DMS. “We will sign the contract in about a week. A few weeks afterwards, they will start work on the sites,” an official said. Afcons Infrastructure Ltd., which was given the contract for tunnelling, will start work sometime this week along this stretch. Though Afcons’s contract worth about Rs. 350 crore was awarded last month, the contract for station work alone remained pending. Sources said there had been a delay in awarding the contract owing to issues related to cost. Last year, the Chennai Metro Rail work along Anna Salai came to halt as the contractors failed to complete the job. Delhi Metro | DMRC plans to convert 50% AFC Exit Gates for Smart Cards users only

New Delhi: In order to facilitate the Smart Card carrying passengers who comprise about 70% of the daily Metro passengers, the Delhi Metro has decided to convert 50 percent of the existing ‘Automatic Fare Collection Gates (AFC) Exit Gates’ to ‘Card Only’ Exit Gates. At present, Delhi Metro has 1073 AFC Exit Gates across all Metro stations of the network. Of these, 500 ‘Exit Gates’ are being converted exclusively for the Smart Card users to be known as ‘Card Only’ AFC Exit Gates. The move is aimed at facilitating a smooth exit from the dedicated gates at a faster pace. The remaining AFC Exit Gates will remain functional for both the Smart Card and Token carrying passengers. These dedicated ‘Card Only’ exit gates will also help Token users as shifting of Card users to their dedicated exit gates would allow Token users more space/time to exit from remaining AFC(mixed-token+card) Exit Gates. Jaipur Metro | JMRC fails to meet public expectations

Jaipur: A public online survey conducted by the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) recently revealed that majority of commuters believe that the Metro route between Mansarovar to Chandpole is short of public expectations. To improve services and enhance the utility, the JMRC survey was conducted after Jaipur Metro completed its one year. In a three-week survey, 464 residents participated online where they submitted their suggestions and observations. Nearly 53% participants mentioned that existing route has failed to provide the first and last connectivity. The report reads, 32% of the participants have expressed that the existing route is short, while 21% mentioned that commuters have to switch to more than two modes of transport to reach their destination if they opt for the Metro route. Also, 18% of the participants are on the side of providing economical and better feeder services. Other suggestions include, developing of green-spaces and retail outlets in Metro stations. JMRC di
