Maha-metro | MMRC plans alternate route that will hike total project cost

Mumbai: After the National Monuments Authority (NMA) rejected its proposal to build a Metro rail route within the ‘prohibitory area’ of the Aga Khan Palace, a heritage structure, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRC) or Maha-Metro has proposed certain changes in the route alignment that will lead to an increase of Rs 185 crore in the project cost. In a communication to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the Maha-Metro suggested three options but recommended the second option, which proposes an alternate route. It involves diverting the route from Gunjan Chowk and increasing the length of the viaduct to an additional 0.92 km. As per the first option, the Metro route would be diverted from Kalyaninagar Metro station and it would entail a slight increase of .06 km in the length of the viaduct. Mumbai Metro | Night ban on Metro 3 might cause Rs 6,100 crore loss annually

Mumbai: Restriction placed by Bombay High Court on Mumbai Metro work on Metro 3 might lead to an estimated loss of Rs 6,100. As per the orders metro work cannot be carried out from 10 pm to 6am – the ban is on late night construction. This ensued after a complaint from Cuffe Parade residents. The ban has resulted in a loss of nine-month delay in work. The officials feel that if the ban is imposed for three more months, the project is likely to run in losses.  A projected annual loss comes around Rs 6,133 crore to the economy as per the experts associated with underground Mumbai Metro rail project. As per the plan the Colaba-bandra-Seepz Metro 3 corridor construction comes to over Rs 23,000. The project is taken by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC). Mumbai Metro | MMRC completes 5 km tunneling of Colaba-Seepz corridor

Mumbai:  The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is executing the 33.5 km corridor of which the 5 km of tunneling across its alignment in the city has been completed. Underground corridor for the Colaba-Seepz metro line has completed 10% of tunneling work. Mumbai Metro | MMRC asked to safeguards against noise pollution

Mumbai : Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) has been asked by Bombay High Court what measures have they taken to safeguard to ensure that the citizens" constitutional right to a pollution-free environment is protected. This protection also includes safeguarding from noise pollution as well. MMRC which is facing flake for its construction work going on for Mumbai metro line 3, will have to now furnish answers. Bombay HC has sought answers from MMRC over their initiative to safeguard citizen’s right during its construction work. Indian envoys visit key construction sites of Mumbai Metro 3 and Lucknow Metro

Mumbai : A group of Indian Ambassadors and High Commissioners (Indian envoys) visited various key constrution sites of Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) and Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. The overall lowest bid is around 1.36% less than MMRDA’s estimated cost of around Rs2,100 crore for four packages. If the MMRDA’s executive committee gives a go-ahead to the works, then it is likely to be awarded to Reliance-Astaldi and Tata Projects-China Harbour Engineering Company (TPL-CHEC), both joint ventures. “We should start the soil-testing in March and full-fledged work in April. There will be barricades on EEH and LBS Marg and traffic diversions will be in place,” Pravin Darade, additional metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA, said. The barricading on EEH will start from Suman Nagar flyover in Chembur till the Ghatkopar exit near Garodia Nagar, further connecting to LBS Marg. Mumbai Metro | MMRC designs a comprehensive plan to dig in Metro three corridor

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has designed a comprehensive plan to dig below, while allying fears that vibrations caused by work can affect heritage and ruinous structures. The Metro-3 corridor will pass through Colaba to SEEPZ (the Export Processing Zone of Santacruz Electronics, a special economic zone), making stops at 27 stations, of which 26 will be underground. Some activists and representatives of citizens have expressed concern for the safety and sustainability of old and heritage buildings since construction began. Mumbai Metro | MMRC places an order for 17 new Tunnel Boring Machines

Mumbai: Amid controversies and oppositions, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) completed the stacking and excavation work for the Metro-3 corridor (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ) this year, and tunnel work began in early November. At the beginning of the year, the MMRC placed an order for 17 tunnel boring machines (TBM) to carry out the corridor tunnel work. Of these, five have arrived in the city. The first tunnel boring machine was lowered at the Naya Nagar launch pit in Mahim in September. It took him almost 45 days to assemble the entire machine, which was lowered in three separate parts. According to the MMRC, this TBM has completed 50 meters. The machine is expected to leave Dadar in September 2018. The machines have also been downloaded at Vidya Nagari in Kalina, Azad Maidan near Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Pali Ground in Marol Naka. Mumbai Metro | 30-35% transplanted trees nearly dead in Mumbai Metro 3 project

Mumbai: The inspection report submitted before the two-judge committee on Mumbai Metro 3 , which was appointed by the Bombay High Court, said 30-35% of the transplanted trees are nearly dead, and that there are still 839 trees to be transplanted. The report prepared by a junior committee consisting of two officers of the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority, pointed out that 2,439 trees should have been planted till date, but not even a few hundred trees have been planted. The petitioners have contended that the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) is taking proper care to prevent unnecessary hacking of trees, but the authorities are not taking enough care to transplant them as only 65-70% trees have shown sprouting of leaves. Justice Shantanu Kemkar and Justice B.R. Gavai directed the MMRCL to give a detailed plan on where they propose to plant/transplant trees.
