Nagpur Metro | NMC faces trouble in rail work, delay in demolition of Tekdi Flyover

Nagpur: The metro work which was expected to run on smooth lines in Nagpur has hit a roadblock. The  Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has already transferred land and given nod for demolishing Tekdi flyover. But looks like the concerned metro officials have forgotten to bring down the structure before starting metro work. With Tekdi flyover standing tall in front of the Nagpur Railway Station, the overall traffic situation in the area has worsened. This callousness comes despite Union Minister Nitin Gadkari asking authorities to fasten up metro work. NMC which has already received permission to raze down Tekdi Flyover but the concerned authorities have forgotten about the approval. Ironically, the proposal was passed and cleared by authorities for over two months now. Incidentally, the authorities haven’t begun any procedure; whereas the Metro Rail department has received permission to transfer 70,424 square meters of land. Are there coordination issues between Nagpur Met...

Funds for Nagpur Metro but none for reviving city buses

Nagpur: As the city gears up to travel in Nagpur metro rail, the public transport lifeline of Nagpur is heading towards closure. In an ironically situation, the city buses will be shut down owing to shortage of funds. On the other hand Rs 6,000 core is been spent on setting up Nagpur Metro network in the city. There is no fund for reviving city buses that will stop operating from August 1. It is increasingly becoming difficult to run the buses owing to financial challenges. There are outstanding dues, loans and unfortunately, representatives are not doing enough to improve the situation. Sources reveal that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is not showing any interest in the corporation issues. His attention is diverted towards Nashik owing to higher GST grant for the city. It is not just Fadnavis, but even union minister from Nagpur Nitin Gadkari projects have not materialised. They are stalled due to paucity of funds. Sources from corporation aver that only if 25% of outstanding due...

Nagpur: The decks have been cleaned for the proposed subway station on Zero Mileon Wardha Street. The large building of the fisheries department on the G + 2 floor has been completely demolished to pave the way for the building of the Metro G + 20 train station. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has demolished the fishing department building with the help of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and other departments in recent days. Now there will be a next-generation metro train station with commercial stores, etc. along with a patrimonial walk. The stone and the Zero Mile facilities have been neglected for years. The state government and also the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) had proposed the expansion and beautification of Zero Mile, but they could not succeed. The NIT in partnership with Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) planned a good project but had to stop with Maha Metro proposing its plan. Now, Maha Metro will use the spaces adjacent to Zero Mile for commer...

Nagpur: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has approved the proposal to increase the stamp duty by 1% in the Metro Rail corridor. Duty now will be 7.5% instead of 6.5%. The registration charge of 1% (maximum 30,000 rupees) will remain unchanged. The stamp duty on the city, except the area under the Metro corridor, will remain at 6.5%. The corridor is the area that is 500 meters on both sides of the Metro road. While the stamp duty was increased, the proposal to increase the floor to space index (FSI) in the Metro corridor is still under consideration. The government is also thinking of increasing the development charges imposed while sanctioning a building in the corridor. The decision to increase the stamp duty is very important for Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) since it will get half the revenue generated by a 1% surcharge charge. The remaining 50% will go to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) or Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) depending on the ownership of ...
