Metro rail project in Pune going on at fast pace, 21 % completion rate

Pune: Metro rail development in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad is moving on a jet-set speed. As per early estimates, 21 percent of work is completed, hinting a good physical progress of the work.

This was communicated via written replay to Parliament by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The ministry asserted that progress is far better than other metro projects taking place across the country.

It was in December 2016 that Pune Metro was launched. It is commendable to note that around 21 percent of civil work has been completed in about 19 months. Work has been progressing well in two Metro corridors — Vanaz to Ramwadi —PCMC to Swargate covering a distance of 32.25 km.

Maha Metro executing the project shared that they have 90 percent possession of land in both the corridors. The officials are optimistic that will pick up additional momentum in coming days. There are no roadblocks or hindrance so far.

Even funding for the project is likely to be finalized in the coming two months. MahaMetro, in order to bring speedier execution, has put the project on the priority level. This would imply timely completion of civil work including construction of viaduct and depots.

Managing Director of Maha Metro, Brijesh Dixit on an optimistic note shared that 21 percent completion is indeed a good achievement.

Dixit asserts that work will go on smoothly and expedited as per timeline. This will be possible as the MD does not foresee any major hurdles while executing the project.

The MD said that the credit of this goes to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and state government. Both the government and corporation body has played a significant role in given impetus to the Pune Metro Rail project. It is their support for the metro authorities that have helped in carrying out the work seamlessly.
