Delhi Metro | Finally Arvind Kejriwal ready to discuss on DMRC Phase-IV with Hardeep S Puri
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday met Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. They discussed several issues, including the proposed Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Phase-IV. The approval for the DMRC Phase-IV has been pending with the Delhi government.
In February 2016, the Aam Aadmi Party government had given an in-principal nod for the construction of Phase IV project, but the Delhi Cabinet is taking time to take its final decision.
Kejriwal had said there were "issues of financial viability" on some of the routes falling under the Phase IV project. The Delhi Finance department had also made objections on some routes which may not be financially viable. The report stated that however, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is not in agreement with the observations of the finance department as the 22-km long Tughlakabad Aerocity line is not included in it.
In May this year, Puri had said: “the Centre would take a decision on the execution of the much-awaited metro"s Phase-IV project if something was lacking on the Delhi government"s side.”
If the plan is successfully executed, it would be the first time in Delhi metro projects that the central government and Delhi government are equal shareholders.
The areas that will be covered by the proposed lines — Burari, Yamuna Vihar, Paschim Vihar, Rohini East, Mukarba Chowk and Andrews Ganj — house a large migrant population, the support of which played a major role in AAP’s rise to power.
