Chennai Metro | CMRL completes over 50K trips through bicycle sharing service

CHENNAI: For the benefits of the passengers and to promote a healthier and sustainable mode of transport, the CMRL metro station has introduced a bicycle sharing scheme of providing last mile connectivity to metro rail stations several bicycle scheme has been introduced.

At 16 different stations, metro rail provides other facilities for last mile connectivity other than bicycle which are feeder buses, buggy services at the airport and vadapalani metro stations, tie-ups with cabs and walkalator linking the airport with metro stations.

12 metro stations Nehru Park, Kilpauk, Pachaiyappa"s College, Shenoy Nagar, Anna Nagar Tower, Thirumangalam, Koyambedu, Ashok Nagar, Ekkattuthangal, Alandur, St. Thomas Mount, Little Mount have this three bicycle scheme namely CMRL bicycle from 17 January PEDL bicycle scheme by Athi’s Car from October 2017 started a GPS enable bicycle scheme at 3 stations namely Thirumangalam, Anna Nagar Tower, Anna Nagar East. This scheme is liked by the Chennai public and all these are provided at various elevated and underground metro stations.

Since the CMRL have introduced this CMRL bicycle scheme a total of 50,000 number of trips have been availed from metro station, 14,500 number of trips have been availed from Athi’s cycles scheme and 36,450 number of trips availed through PEDL bicycle.
For the benefits of the passenger"s several last mile connectivity facility and scheme have also been introduced:-
• For the connectivity to several routes from metro station feeder service (small busses) have been introduced.
• For last mile connectivity at 16 metro stations, the CMRL entered an agreement with M/S OLA & UBER cabs.
• Airport and vadapalani have the buggy services.
• Airport metro stations and Chennai airport is connected through walkalator.
