Jaipur Metro | By June-end Jaipur Metro to go driverless, trial completed

Jaipur: India would soon take pride in offering driverless metro rail ride soon. As per the recent news, trails for driverless Jaipur Metro have been completed.  Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) is now waiting for Commissioner of Rail Safety Mumbai to approve of the trail runs. Once JMRC receives the nod of the officials, metro will start automated train operations.


Till now it was Japan leading the race by offering driverless metro trains to commuters. With driverless metro becoming operational, India will be part of the countries offering driverless metro rail services. With metro completing three years of completion, JMRC has also concluded the trail runs for the automated metro trains.


The benefit of automated trains are many, including reduction of running time by 1 minute, less fuel consumption (approximately 10%) as well we reducing energy requirement.


CS Jeengar, Operation Director of Jaipur Metro shared that the Pink City became the first tier-2 city in the country to have metro services after metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad.


As per the current status, Jaipur Metro is operational on only one route Mansarovar to Chandpol covering the stretch in 23 minutes. It is at this route that the train will run driverless from end of June. To ensure safety of passenger a drive will be there in the metro train to open and close the metro doors owing to absence of platform screen at Jaipur Metro. The JMRC are taking all measures to ensure that the metro rail journey is smooth and seamless.


Since beginning Jaipur Metro has been a special metro service and now has become the lifeline of the city. The metro rail service will complete 3 years of operations and over 2.25 crore travellers have used its services. The Jaipur Metro has generated revenue of Rs 26 crore with the rail service maintaining its position being accident free metro rail in the country.
