Countdown to the "Rail Live and the 14th World Metro & Light Rail Congress"

Bilbao, March 2018.- The BEC (Bilbao Exhibition Center) will host from April 18 to 19, 2018 one of the most important fairs and congresses in the subway, light rail and commuter transport sector.


The organization of Rail Live!, A fair within which the 14th World Metro & Light Rail Congress takes place, just over 4 weeks after its celebration, enters its final phase. We work on finalizing the details of the program of one of the most important international professional events dedicated to metro, light rail and commuter trains. For this, representatives of more than 98 countries will be able to know the latest technological advances of the sector in the area dedicated to exhibition. In addition, an extensive program of simultaneous conferences has been prepared in which there will be more than 150 international speakers.


For the first time and after the last editions in London, the headquarters will be Bilbao. It has the backing of Mafex, the Spanish railway association, in the organization of the event, as well as that of the Basque Government. The SPRI Group, ETS, Euskotren and Metro Bilbao collaborate in the development of the event. The contest also has the support of Adif and Renfe.


The event also has the presence of the main companies in the sector such as Grupo CAF, ArcelorMittal, Ingeteam, Indra, Siemens, Bombardier and Stadler, among others. It is expected the participation of 60 companies as well as start-ups where they will present their latest innovations that will revolutionize the sector of the future, Technology Centers such as IK4 Research Alliance and the presence of Mobility and Logistics Clusters as well as Fundigex (Foundry)


 


Under the title “Innovation, Technology, Action”, the event will host for two days a broad debate on the present and future of global public transport. The organization has prepared an intense agenda that will begin on April 17 with previous work sessions between delegates and companies. The discussion forums will focus on key aspects for the future of public transport such as: sustainability strategies, advances in control systems, improvements in mobility and associated services, as well as evolution of the IoT, in the world of transport. For this, there will be presentations and case studies of relevant urban rail transport entities such as Transport for London, entity in charge of public transport in the city of London, Metro Los Angeles, Metrolinx of Canada, to name just a few examples.


The official inauguration of the event will be in charge of the Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu. Then, the event will continue with a special panel formed by the 4 top managers of ETS, Euskotren, Metro Bilbao and Grupo SPRI under the title “The Strategy in Innovation of Public Transport of the Basque Country”, where Alex Arriola, from Grupo SPRI, Eneko Arruebarrena, from Metro Bilbao, Imanol Leza, from Euskotren and Aitor Garitano from ETS will present the Basque Government’s commitment to innovation in the sector as well as a sustainable and integrated transport model as an instrument of social cohesion and socio-economic development in Basque Country.


Then, and during the two days of the event, many industry experts will discuss various roundtables on the implementation of new technologies in urban transport and how the industry can join this change. On the other hand, the role of administrations, operators, and agents of the sector to match trends with the needs of urban transport will be analyzed.


This edition brings great news and outstanding advances in the field of R & D in the rail sector of countries such as Iran, Germany, Mexico, Panama, Canada, Poland, Great Britain, Peru, Israel, South Korea, Ireland, France, Russia and others.
