Bangalore Metro | residents are not happy with the pace of work

Bangalore: Unmistakable by all-day traffic jams in several areas, especially around Tin Factory in KR Puram and Graphite India junction, it is not surprising that traffic topped the list of civic problems that annoy the residents of Mahadevaura, Bommanahalli, and Yelahanka at the Times of India Bengaluru Forward event.

The history of the city’s technological corridor was only slightly different in the area of Whitefield, Mahadevapura, where residents demanded an early end to Metro work.

While Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has already started work for connecting Bppanahalli and Whitefield residents are not happy with the pace of work.

They say that all motorists who pass through the Graphite India junction run into a bumper road at peak during peak hours. Several authorities had promised residents that roads would be expanded before Metro’s work to ensure smooth flow of traffic, but residents say those promises have not been fulfilled.

“I take a BMTC bus from Graphite India to Richmond Road,” said Zibi Jamal, a Whitefield Rising member, a citizen forum. “During peak hours, it takes between 30 and 45 minutes to travel approximately 1.5 km on this stretch.”

Work to extend the Byappanahalli subway line to Whitefield was to start in mid-2010. They were ready for 2016. However, the project has been delayed due to problems such as land acquisition and logging.

Following the current pace of work, it is likely that the 15.5km line to Whitefield will be completed by 2020. It is likely to have 13 stations on the stretch. When interacting with residents, BMRCL chief engineer M Srinivas said that road infrastructure problems will be addressed to facilitate the traffic flow.
