Mumbai: The public accounts committee (PAC) of the state legislature has criticized the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for its poor planning and for having misjudged the viability of the monorail and the Skywalks. Calling both facilities a “waste of public money,” the statutory committee said none was useful to citizens. In its report filed in the state legislature on Thursday, the committee said that although Phase 1 of the Monorail does not serve people traveling on overcrowded local trains, the government has been conducting safety tests for Phase 2. Mumbai Monorail Started in 2014, the first monorail project in India has caused losses. A response to an RTI submitted in September revealed that the monorail loses Rs3 lakh daily. While officials said that Phase 1, between Wadala and Chembur, covers a number of passengers of 18,000 passengers per day, many experts have described the project as “a getaway for citizens on weekends.” The MM...

Noida: The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) received first train for the Noida-Greater Noida Metro Aqua line which reached the Greater Noida depot on Thursday. According to NMRC Officials, the four-coach train will be formally unveiled for a first look on December 18, 2017 by the Managing Directors of NMRC, Alok Tandon. DMRC Chief Mangu Singh will also present in inauguration ceremony. First trials for the corridor are expected to start from the end of the month. The first train of the 29.7 km Noida-Greater Noida Metro corridor was dispatched from CRRC Nanjing , China for Mundra port in Gujarat on November 2, 2017 and from there, the train was rolled out by road to the Greater Noida depot. New Delhi: A five-year-old child’s complaint alleging noise pollution due to the operation of Delhi Metro trains today prompted the National Green Tribunal to direct the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation , or DMRC, to strictly adhere to environmental norms. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar directed the DMRC to comply with the prescribed limits and directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee to ensure that no noise pollution is caused by its activities, including construction and operation. The NGT was hearing a plea filed by Rohini resident Samriddhi Goswami, through her father Rakesh Goswami, seeking shifting of Rohini sector 18-19 metro stations to a suitable alternate site as noise levels were found to be above 85 decibels. The five-year-old girl, in her plea filed through advocates Salik Shafique and Rahul Khurana, has also sought the erection of sound barriers around the Rohini sector 18 metro station in west Delhi and compensation for causing trauma ...

Gurugram: The Metropolitan Development Authority of Gurugram (GMDA) has formally proposed that the new metro extension line will connect the Huda City Center station with Sector 21 Dwarka . The decision comes almost two months after GMDA received the task of collecting comments from the public on two new subway route options for the city. On Tuesday, GMDA compiled its report and recommended the Dwarka route for its extension to the Haryana Massive Rapid Transit Corporation (HMRTC).
