Mumbai Metro | State Govt. approves 118km Metro routes to connect Mumbai suburbs

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Urban Development (UD) Department has approved 118km of Metro lines, which will connect various parts of the Mumbai suburbs. The move is aimed to ease traffic congestion. According to the department notification, the government has approved following lines: Dahisar-DN Nagar (27km), Bandra-Mankhurd (13km), Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarwadavali (22km), Wadala-RA Kidwai Marg (8km), Dahisar (E)-Andheri (E) (18km), Andheri (E)-Bandra (E) (9km) and Jogeshwari-Vikroli Link road (11km). The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will undertake this work, while the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will work as an advisory for the finalised Metro routes. The estimated cost for the Metro-II route (Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd) is Rs10,986 crore, while Metro-IV route (Wadala-Ghatkopar-Mulund-Thane-Kasarvadavli) will cost an estimated cost Rs14,549 crore. Delhi Metro | DMRC conducts test trial run on Botanical Garden - Janakpuri West line

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) conducted trial runs on a 13.5 km stretch between Kalindi Kunj Depot and Botanical Garden, Noida. Earlier in August, trial runs were held on the Kalkaji Mandir-Kalindi Kunj stretch on the same corridor. This corridor is also known as Magenta Line. These driverless trains will increase the frequency of trains to every 90 seconds. Delhi Metro | DMRC starts adding 258 coaches on blue, yellow and red lines

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today started the process of adding 258 more coaches to its fleet to augment its carrying capacity on the Blue, Yellow and Red lines of the network. In order to substantially increase the carrying capacity of the three main corridors of Delhi Metro, orders have been placed for the procurement of 258 additional coaches with 162 of these coaches being provided by Bombardier, and 96 coaches by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML). The first two coaches of the order to Bombardier were pressed into service today with the conversion of one more six coach train into eight coach configuration on the blue line. The other supplier, BEML will also commence supplying its coaches by the end of the year or early next year. Pune Metro | Pune Metro rail now needs Cabinet approval

Pune: All decks have been cleared for the tabling of the much-pending proposal of Pune Metro rail in the Union Cabinet for the final approval with the Public Investment Board (PIB) of the Union Finance Ministry on Friday giving a go-ahead to it. “The PIB has recommended the proposal of Pune Metro rail to the Union Cabinet. There has been no conditions attached for it but some suggestions have been made that have been incorporated,” said Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar. The members of PIB said that the project structure was good and raised no queries on it, he said, adding that the proposal would be tabled in the Cabinet after the Union Finance minister and secretary approves the minutes of the meeting. “We along with the Union government officers have prepared the minutes of the meeting so that they can be signed and the Pune Metro proposal can be tabled in the Cabinet as soon as possible,” Kumar said. Delhi Metro | DMRC launched free Wi-Fi facility for Airport Line commuters

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today launched ‘Free Wi-Fi’ facilities at Metro stations on its Airport Express Line. DMRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Mangu Singh launched the facility at the Shivaji Stadium Metro station. The facility titled “Oui DMRC Free Wi-Fi” will be available on all six stations of the Airport Express Line. As of now passengers will be able to log in simply by searching for Wi-Fi options and log into “Oui DMRC Free Wi-Fi”. DMRC aims to extend this facility to all the stations of the Metro network gradually. For the facility, DMRC has tied up with a consortium led by M/s Techno Sat Comm which presently runs India’s first Wi-Fi on train service on the Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express. MEGA Metro | Hundreds cheated with promise of jobs in Ahmedabad Metro Rail project

Ahmadabad: A city-based firm allegedly duped over a hundred unemployed youths by promising them jobs at the Metro Rail project and collecting lakhs of rupees as “application fee”, police said on Saturday. About a hundred victims of the scam lodged a complaint of cheating at the Karanj police station on Saturday. These youths had applied for the job of supervisor at a firm, which claimed in its newspaper advertisements that it was associated with the Metro rail project undertaken by the Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA). Every applicant was asked to pay Rs 1,050 by September 3 along with the application. The applicants were then mailed appointment letters and asked to come to the Mirzapur office of the firm on Saturday for interview. However, when the applicants turned up at the office, it was found to be locked. According to reports Indian Transport Minister Mr Nitin Gadkari has revealed that as part of its efforts to provide efficient transportation system in our cities the government will soon launch the personal rapid transport project which is also popularly known as Metrino in the National Capital Region (NCR).The Transport Minister disclosed this on Sunday. Traffic congestion and pollution are the two main things which have been plaguing this city for a long time. With the introduction of these Metrinos, the situation might improve for the better. Kanpur Metro | CM Akhilesh Yadav lays foundation stone of metro project

Kanpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will lay the foundation stone of the ambitious Rs. 13,721 crore Kanpur metro project today. “Akhilesh Yadav will lay the foundation stone of the Kanpur metro and will also inaugurate other projects of Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) in the city,” District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said. The foundation laying ceremony will be held in the presence of Union Urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu, BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi and UP minister Ahmad Hasan. The Kanpur metro is a joint project by Central and state governments for which the BJP-led Central government has allocated Rs. 50 crore. Metrino Project | Govt. may implement Delhi-Manesar Driverless Pod Taxis project soon

New Delhi: The government will soon implement the ambitious Personal Rapid Transit or Metrino project in the National Capital Region, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Sunday. The pilot project, which will cost Rs. 800 crore, will let passengers use India’s first driverless pods – suspended on a ropeway – on a 12.3-km stretch from the Delhi-Haryana border to Badshapur via Rajiv Chowk in Delhi and IFFCO chowk and Sohna Road in Gurgaon. Mr Gadkari said that four initial tenders have been received and it will soon invite financial bids for the implementation of the project. “We are going to implement the Rs. 800-crore pilot project under NHAI (National Highways Authority of India). I had a meeting with Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu and it was finally decided that we can execute it under the NHAI Act. Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) board on Tuesday approved the plan to extend Noida sector 62 metro route up to Indirapuram in Ghaziabad. The plan was one of the 47 proposals passed at a GDA meeting in Ghaziabad which was was chaired by Principal Secretary (Housing), Sadakant and presided by Vice-Chairman of GDA Vijay Yadav. “Metro rail service will be extended from Noida sector 62 to Indirapuram via Vasundhara to Mohan Nagar trisection and Blue line metro rail service from Vaishali to Mohan Nagar.
